The Norse Religion:
The Vikings were a Pagan culture, because of this they worshiped a number of gods and goddesses, all of which had a number of tales along with rich history's. Each of these gods represented and aspect of the Scandinavian and viking life as they perceived it. There were two main groups of gods the Aesir and the Vanir. While the Aesir contained the pantheon gods Odin, Thor, Frigg, Baldr, and Tyr, the Vanir had Freyr, Freyja, and Njoror, the gods of fertility, wisdom, and the future. All these gods were believed to live in a place called Asgard that was connected to earth by a rainbow bridge called Bifrost. Much like Christianity the Norse Religion had a utopia like promise of an after life. Instead of heaven though the Vikings believed in Valhalla. They believed that if they were to die in battle nobly they would brought to Valhalla, were they would be able to fight all day along side odin, die, feast, and then do it all over again the next day. This religion is what fed the ferocious and violent nature of the Viking Culture.
