The Weapons and Tools:
Vikings were always well armored and equipped when they went into battle. They were usually proficient with a number of weapons such as javelins, lances, and bows. However, Vikings most commonly used sturdy heavy axes that could be used as not only throwing weapons, but also to break through shields with head splitting force. Another popular combination was the Longsword and shield, the arm length sword would allow for quick and strong strikes that could cover a large area of ground. Even though the Vikings didn't fear death, and in fact almost welcomed it into their life, they still wore protective armor. Common Vikings would wear a couple layers of padded leather shirts and possibly an iron breastplate, although more successful Vikings would often wear chain mail shirts and helmets of Iron.
